In addition to coffee, emeralds, fruits and flowers, Colombia is an exporter of talent and is increasingly positioned in the global market according to the Imd World Competitiveness Center's talent ranking. Among the main sectors with export potential are BPO services, the hotel and catering sector and the technology sector.
On the one hand, BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) is the business process outsourcing sector, i.e. the contracting of business activities and functions to an external provider, which mainly includes payroll, human resources, accounting and customer relations services. There are currently more than 600 companies in Colombia dedicated to providing BPO services, 65% of which are national and 35% multinational or multilatina. This is undoubtedly a growing sector with great international potential.
On the other hand, the hotel and catering sector is very important for the economy in Colombia due to the number of jobs and opportunities it generates, and there is an increasing offer of educational programmes that train young people properly and professionally, which has led it to become a trend sector in the country and has also opened up many possibilities in international markets.
In addition, Colombia is the third largest and fastest growing centre of technological talent in Latin America, after Mexico and Brazil. It is such an interesting market that currently five technology giants: Amazon Web Services, CISCO, IBM, Microsoft and Oracle are training at least 10,000 young Colombians in programming and their platforms with the support of the Ministry of Technology and Communications (MINTIC).
Finally, it is worth noting that the profile of Colombian professionals is also attractive because of their adaptability, service attitude and friendliness, which, added to their preparation and education and the fact that many are bilingual and multilingual, are a perfect complement and a value proposition for any company.
Because of all these variables, Colombia has become a potential talent export market, which can perfectly meet the needs of foreign companies in these profiles we have mentioned.
